Patel Blasted For Partying With US Hockey Team

MILAN, ITALY - FEBRUARY 22: US Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel looks on prior to the Men's Gold Medal match between Canada and the United States on day 16 of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic games at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena on February 22, 2026 in Milan, Italy. The optics of seeing the director of the FBI chugging celebratory beers with the U.S. Olympic hockey team after winning the gold hasn’t set well with some.

FBI Director Kash Patel was on hand for the final game, where the U.S. defeated Canada in overtime 2-1 to take the gold.

But his actions in the locker room afterward — chugging beers, singing a Toby Keith song and partying — have people questioning his presence.

Patel, a noted hockey fan, pushed back Friday when reports surfaced of his use of government aircraft to travel to Milan.

The explanation was the director was in Italy “meeting with regional partners and security teams.” A spokesman also said planned to attend the Games because “the FBI also has a major role in Olympic security.”

But his locker room antics angered critics.

“The grift & corruption is unreal,” wrote Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) in a social media post. “Your taxpayer dollars funding the FBI Director’s Italian vacation.”

“3 million pages of evidence of a massive child sex trafficking ring and this is what the FBI director is doing right now,” added Rep. Sean Casten (D-Ill.) in a post on X, referring to the Jeffrey Epstein case.

Should FBI Director Patel have celebrated with the U.S. hockey team after the Olympics?

Patel defended himself in a statement Sunday.

“For the very concerned media – yes, I love America and was extremely humbled when my friends, the newly minted Gold Medal winners on Team USA, invited me into the locker room to celebrate this historic moment with the boys- Greatest country on earth and greatest sport on earth,” Patel wrote.

Unity, Sacrifice, Attitude- what it takes to be the best in the world. These men live and breathe it. Now Team USA are gold medal champions, legends standing on the shoulders of giants. Thank you for representing the greatest country on earth, in the greatest game ever created.… pic.twitter.com/hBG987pxM2

FBI spokesman Ben Williamson also posted on X that “any other personal expenses would be reimbursed” by Patel.

“His office insisted this was strictly a business trip” – BS. That is not what happened. You tried to claim Kash only went to Italy for hockey. I responded 2/19 outlining the meetings we had scheduled and said any other personal expenses would be reimbursed. Here’s the email. https://t.co/zgiK9wAMxd pic.twitter.com/5t8JXk70u5

Xochitl Hinojosa, spokeswoman for the Department of Justice under President Joe Biden, said Patel’s presence at the Olympics is unusual give several other ongoing matters requiring FBI focus.

“There was a threat at the president’s residence at [Mar-a-Lago], Americans in Mexico are facing major threats by cartel members, Nancy Guthrie is still missing, and our FBI Director thinks he’s a frat bro?!” she wrote on X.
