PBS News’ Amna Nawaz is insisting former President Donald Trump is less coherent than President Joe Biden.
During a segment of the “PBS News Hour” Monday, Nawaz played a clip of Trump speaking at an event after his teleprompter had an issue, which she said “led him to unscripted remarks that veered wildly from topic to topic.”
“I just want to point out all of those remarks were within one 10 minute window,” she continued. “For all his calls for President Biden to undergo some kind of cognitive test, it’s clear to say Mr. Trump’s remarks are not at all coherent in these rallies.”

NPR’s Tamera Keith chimed in, “Mr. Trump’s remarks have never been super coherent in his rallies. I’m not sure that I can weigh in on how much they have veered in the last couple of months, but this split screen has always been there, will always be there. They are different people.”
While Nawaz featured a clip of Biden speaking without a teleprompter fairly coherently, the segment did not spend much time on the numerous incidents where he has appeared to freeze, lose his train of thought, fumble over sentences, or make up stories about his past.
Others in the media have seized on Trump’s speech over the weekend and used phrase “veered wildly” to describe his comments.
“Call it the heat or Donald Trump feeling hot under the collar, but the content of this rally veered wildly into topic after topic. Now, some that actually might matter to you, the voter, and others that matter to Donald Trump and maybe no one else,” CNN’s Abby Phillip said on Monday night.
She then played a longer version of the former president’s speech which touched on topics such as how Biden looks in a bathing suit, venting about his broken teleprompter, and what happens if you’re in a boat that sinks with sharks nearby.
