The House of Representatives will introduce a resolution to limit President Donald Trump’s military actions regarding Iran.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made the announcement on Sunday, which comes after the recent U.S. airstrike which killed Qassem Soleimani —  commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force â€” in Baghdad.

Pelosi wrote a letter to her Democratic colleagues, in which she slammed the “provocative and disproportionate military airstrike” by the Trump administration that occurred at the end of last week.

“As Members of Congress, our first responsibility is to keep the American people safe,” she wrote, adding, “For this reason, we are concerned that the Administration took this action without the consultation of Congress and without respect for Congress’s war powers granted to it by the Constitution.”

The House is expected to introduce and vote on the “War Powers Resolution” this week that would “limit the President’s military actions regarding Iran.”

The resolution will be led by Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), who is a former CIA and Department of Defense analyst.

Pelosi added in her letter to her Democratic colleagues: “Thank you for your patriotic leadership during this difficult time.”

Shortly after the airstrike, the House speaker decried Trump’s orders and blasted the administration for taking the action “without the consultation of the Congress,” as IJR previously reported.

As the administration took heat from Democrats, the White House sent over a formal notification on Saturday of the attack.

In response to the document, Pelosi said it “prompts serious and urgent questions about the timing, manner and justification of the Administration’s decision to engage in hostilities against Iran.”

While Democrats have criticized the airstrike, several Republican lawmakers have praised Trump for authorizing it.
