Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) insists she had never seen President Joe Biden look as he appeared during a disastrous debate that led to him dropping out of the 2024 race.
Speaking to reporters about her new book, “The Art of Power, My Story as America’s First Woman Speaker of the House,” Pelosi talked about Biden and her thoughts on the debate.
The California Democrat said she did not think a debate with former President Donald Trump would be a good idea, saying, “I just thought it’d be like doggy-doo and you’re going to get it on your shoe and you’re all going to smell like him.”
While Biden insisted he could take on Trump, Pelosi was unconvinced it would be a good idea.
The Associated Press notes, “Pelosi explained her longstanding advice for debating: Clear your mind. Don’t bog yourself down with details. Rest up. Be yourself. Whatever the question is, ‘you respond whatever way you want. You own it.'”
“He’s the president of the United States, a person who for decades has understood a vision of our country based on values, knowledge, issues, therefore judgment about all of it, with more empathy in his heart than anyone. Who needs to prep him?” she added.
However, after Biden appeared on stage and sparked concerns about his age and health as he appeared confused and hard to understand, Pelosi said she had “never seen” him like that and, “I was shocked.”
Reflecting on her involvement in the effort to get Biden to step aside after the debate, Pelosi said, “How can I say this in the nicest possible way: My goal in life was that man [Trump] would never step in the White House again.”
“At some point, I will come to terms with my, to peace, with my own role in this,” she continued. “I think that part of all of our goals in this was to preserve his legacy, a fabulous legacy, that would go right down the drain if Bozo got elected to the White House.”
Earlier this week, Pelosi suggested Biden deserves to be on Mount Rushmore.
