Without a “dramatic change” to the spread of the coronavirus, Los Angeles County officials say the stay-at-home order could, “with all certainty,” be extended for another three months.

“Of course I agree with the decisions of the people on the ground in their particular venue and location,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

She continued, “Because, again, as Dr. Fauci said earlier — and I wish the president would listen to him or hear him even — that you just cannot pretend that it went away and go out there.”

“So, yes, it’s inconvenient. But it’s even more inconvenient if you’re going to be infected or worse. Or if you’re going to go out to work and bring something home to your family,” she added.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer told the county’s Board of Supervisors, “I do think recovery will be months long, based on the tools we have at hand today.”

She added, “Our hope is that by using the data, we’d be able to slowly lift restrictions over the next three months.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, warned lawmakers on Tuesday that reopening the country too soon could lead to more outbreaks of the virus.

But speaking to reporters on Wednesday, President Donald Trump voiced his discontentment with Fauci’s comments, “To me, it’s not an acceptable answer.”
