Some congressional Democrats are planning ways to disrupt President Donald Trump’s Tuesday night Capitol Hill speech with a variety of props and theatrics, Axios reported Tuesday.

While Democrat leadership has suggested that members bring guests who have been affected by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to the speech, some of the party’s more aggressive anti-Trump lawmakers are thinking of ways to go above and beyond to demonstrate their distaste for the president, according to Axios. Tactics under consideration include possible walk outs, using “noisemakers,” bringing eggs or empty egg cartons to bring attention to elevated egg prices and carrying pocket-sized copies of the Constitution to signify their view that Trump’s campaign to slash the federal bureaucracy is violating the law.

“The part that we all agree on is that this is not business as usual and we would like to find a way — productively — to express our outrage,” one anonymous House Democrat told Axios.

Democratic lawmakers were advised against using props for their protest in private meetings and on the House floor on Monday, and there is diversity of opinion in the caucus as to how to best express opposition to the Trump administration and its agenda, according to Axios. Some Democrats are planning to sit through the speech without making any expressions or clapping for the president’s speech.

Others are thinking about walking out of the room if Trump says something they find offensive, according to Axios. One specific subject that could trigger Democrats to leave the room could be “criticism of transgender kids,” according to Axios

“There are definitely a lot of constituents that really want Democrats to disrupt and there are … constituents who feel like that just plays into his hands,” another unnamed House Democrat told Axios.

Democrat Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur is planning to hand out blue and gold articles of clothing to interested members as a way to show support for Ukraine in the wake of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Oval Office spat with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance on Friday. Other Democrats are also considering coordinating fashion statements, with the Democratic Women’s Caucus wanting its members to all wear pink while female members of the Congressional Black Caucus are considering wearing all black to express a somber mood.
