There is a decline in approval of President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus and a distinct display of partisanship among U.S. residents, a new poll shows.
According to CBS News, the month of May marks Trump’s lowest approval of his handling of the coronavirus outbreak since the United States began its battle with the virus.
As the poll shows, conducted between May 11-13, 43% of Americans believe Trump is doing a good job. However, that statistic is 5 points lower than his April rating and 10 points lower than the rating he received in March. The publication also noted that the approval decline is likely due to the shift in opinions of independent voters.
Two-thirds of Americans also believe their state governors are doing a good job of handling the pandemic.
For medical advice on the coronavirus outbreak, the poll indicates that the majority of Americans trust Dr. Anthony Fauci’s expertise and ability to offer sound advice. Sixty-two percent overall said they trust Fauci.
The poll also suggests most Americans do not trust Trump to provide accurate information on the pandemic. Vice President Mike Pence has also received similar poll ratings.
Based on the political views of the polling voters, it appears partisanship is a strong contributing factor in voters’ views. The poll shows over eight out of 10 Republicans trust Trump and Pence while nine out of 10 Democrats, along with two-thirds of independent voters do not trust the Trump administration.
