Former President Donald Trump is going on the offensive after Special Counsel Jack Smith faced a grilling from House lawmakers over his prosecution efforts against the 45th president. Trump is now calling for Smith himself to be prosecuted, accusing the controversial prosecutor of perjury and political targeting.

“Based on his testimony today, there is no question that Deranged Jack Smith should be prosecuted for his actions,” Trump declared on Truth Social. “He destroyed the lives of many innocent people, which has been his history as a prosecutor. At a minimum, he committed large scale perjury!”

Smith, who was appointed by the Biden administration to investigate Trump’s role in the January 6 Capitol riot and his handling of classified documents, found himself in the hot seat Thursday during a House Judiciary Committee hearing. Lawmakers questioned whether Smith’s pursuit of charges against Trump just months before the 2024 election was politically motivated.

The scope of Smith’s investigation raised eyebrows. According to reports and committee statements, Smith subpoenaed Trump’s personal phone records and even obtained toll records of Republican lawmakers and allies — a move the Judiciary Committee claims disregarded constitutional protections.

“Smith chose to target President Trump, and only President Trump, in his electors case—setting aside other targets so that he could secure an indictment of President Trump in advance of the election,” the Committee stated. The indictment was widely seen as an attempt to damage Trump’s momentum heading into the 2024 race.

But the effort backfired. Trump not only fought through the charges — he went on to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris in a landslide, with four felony charges quietly dropped in the aftermath.

“It was a political hijacking, and a low point in the History of our Country that such a thing could have happened, and yet, I persevered, against all odds, and WON,” Trump said when the charges were dismissed.

Should Jack Smith be prosecuted based on Trump's claims regarding his testimony?

🚨 JUST IN: President Trump says he hopes AG PAM BONDI is looking into Jack Smith’s likely criminal actions so he can PAY A PRICE 🔥

Earlier in the day, Trump tore into Smith again, calling him a “deranged animal” and saying he “should no longer be allowed to practice law.”

“If he were a Republican, his license would be taken away from him, and far worse!” Trump wrote, blasting what he described as a “Democrat SCAM” involving corrupt witnesses and political gamesmanship.

Now, with Trump back in the driver’s seat and his critics on defense, the tables appear to be turning. Whether the Attorney General will take any action remains to be seen — but the calls for accountability from the top are only getting louder.
