Things got heated during a White House press briefing when a reporter asked why President Joe Biden supports abortion despite it going against his Catholic faith.
On Thursday, Owen Jensen, a reporter from the Catholic news outlet EWTN, asked White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, “Why does the president support abortion when his own Catholic faith teaches abortion is morally wrong?”
“He believes that it’s a woman’s right. It’s a woman’s body and it’s her choice,” she responded.
The reporter pushed back, “Who does he believe then should look out for the unborn child?”
“He believes it’s up to a woman to make those decisions and to a woman to make those decisions with her doctor,” she responded. “I know you’ve never faced those choices, nor have you ever been pregnant. But for women out there who have faced those choices this is an incredibly difficult thing. The president believes that right should be respected.”

The exchange comes after Biden blasted the Supreme Court’s decision not to block a Texas law that bans abortions after six weeks.
Conservatives quickly responded to Psaki’s comments:
I thought men could get pregnant? What happened? https://t.co/h9Xyff9VSJ

Is Psaki saying that men can’t get pregnant? I thought that was hate speech? pic.twitter.com/pSMUEWPBJk

How does she know this male-identifying reporter has never faced those choices, or that he's never been pregnant? Some men have been pregnant. I have been reliably informed of this by the Biden administration. https://t.co/BnmsjgvkD4

I was told men can get pregnant and that they can chest feed. https://t.co/15oXScSJKy

In a statement on Thursday, Biden called the Supreme Court’s decision “an unprecedented assault on a woman’s constitutional rights under Roe v. Wade, which has been the law of the land for almost fifty years.”
“By allowing a law to go into effect that empowers private citizens in Texas to sue health care providers, family members supporting a woman exercising her right to choose after six weeks, or even a friend who drives her to a hospital or clinic, it unleashes unconstitutional chaos and empowers self-anointed enforcers to have devastating impacts,” he added.
Finally, he said he is directing a “whole-of-government effort to respond to this decision” to see “what steps the Federal Government can take to ensure that women in Texas have access to safe and legal abortions as protected by Roe, and what legal tools we have to insulate women and providers from the impact of Texas’ bizarre scheme of outsourced enforcement to private parties.”
