As we roll into Friday, let’s recap the week’s news highlights. And what a week it has been! From the mountainous aspirations of a former president to the somber farewells of a beloved political family, let’s take a leisurely jog down Current Events Lane, shall we?

Trump’s Promising Peace Pursuit

Well, slap my face with a wet fish and call me surprised! President Trump, back in the White House like he never left, has tossed out a New Year’s resolution that’s positively dripping with optimism: “Peace on Earth.” That’s right, folks; we’re not just talking about peace in our time but peace all around the globe—goodbye war, hello all-you-can-eat harmony buffet!

Now, whether one interprets Trump’s military actions over the past year as paving the way for global peace or simply a spicy retaliation is up for debate. Sure, he’s been busy launching strikes against various villains, but let’s not let that dampen the spirits of peace enthusiasts. The White House’s rapid response account even dubbed him “The President of Peace,” as if Nobel Laureates need to start preparing their speeches.

Nevertheless, can we keep our fingers crossed and hope for a peaceful resolution to the big issues—Ukraine, Israel, and those pesky “narco-terrorists.” If anyone can do it, surely it’s The Donald. After all, if there’s anyone who knows peace from strength, it’s a guy who can navigate Twitter and real estate simultaneously.

Goodbye to Jon Kyl

Turning to a more somber note, we have the indelible exit of former Senator Jon Kyl, as he announced his battle with dementia. After gracing the Senate with his presence for over two decades, he’s trading in public life for some much-needed family time. Kyl’s departure illuminates the often unseen struggles that many face, and may even encourage us to reflect on our own familial relationships. Dementia is a tough foe, and Kyl’s focus on gratitude in the face of it is a lesson for all of us.

Perhaps his most noteworthy achievement was not just navigating party politics but being a steady voice for Arizona. Here’s hoping he finds some peace and joy encircled by his loved ones as he walks this challenging path.

Should Trump’s military actions be seen as steps toward global peace?

We Didn’t Start the Fire: Just Three Left

Billy Joel’s thunderous anthem “We Didn’t Start the Fire” is now a bit less crowded as only three of the original 59 names remain standing. Quite the sobering reminder of the passage of time, isn’t it? It seems surreal that two music icons, Bob Dylan and Chubby Checker, alongside subway hero Bernie Goetz, are standing tall amidst the rubble of a rapidly fading legacy.

The enduring nature of the song, however, feels oddly fitting in this fast-paced world—a reminder that history, no matter how chaotic, keeps on marching forward.

Conway’s Compassionate Advice

Now, let’s meander into the realm of political banter, where Fox News contributor Kellyanne Conway humorously advised Rosie O’Donnell that perhaps what she needs most is “a hug or a husband.” And can we blame her? O’Donnell took to TikTok to rant about Trump needing to be removed from office through the 25th Amendment—an ambitious venture that’s sweeping about as well as a snowball in July.

Conway’s gentle ribbing highlights yet another pro-Trump woman taking the discerning high road, proving that sometimes a sprinkle of sass is sweeter than a full-blown argument. Maybe we can all learn a little something about love, even when struggling through political divides. Or at least, how to throw a shade with a side of serenity.

A Final Sad Note

Lastly, let’s pause to reflect on the untimely death of Tatiana Schlossberg, JFK’s youngest granddaughter, at just 35 after her battle with cancer. Though she rose from a prestigious political lineage, she lived her life with remarkable grace beyond the political arena. Her legacy is not one of power but of personal struggle, wisdom delivered in her honest reflections about motherhood and mortality. It’s a heart-wrenching reminder of our shared human experience—the joy of life, tinged with the inevitability of loss.

So there you have it, friends—a little humor, a splash of sarcasm, and a sprinkle of reality to navigate through the events of the week. Let’s tackle the weekend with the understanding that no matter the headlines, life’s inescapable truths of peace and compassion will always shine through. After all, we’re all just trying to make sense of a world that’s changing faster than my Spotify playlist!
