Rep. Bob Good Vows to Pursue Recount for Virginia House Seat

Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) is not ready to go down without a fight.

Good said he will seek a recount and a “full investigation” in his Virginia House election, The Hill reported.

The chairman of the House Freedom Caucus is battling state Sen. John McGuire to retain his seat in Congress.

Many say the election is too close to call, McGuire declared victory Tuesday night.

Since Virginia observes Juneteenth, the remaining ballots were not counted Wednesday, The Associated Press reported.

Good was a guest on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast Thursday and said he will seek a recount in the election.

“We’re going to have a full recount. We’re going to have a full investigation,” Good said. “It’s going to stretch out for a couple of weeks. We’ve got lawyers at the ready, thankfully, a tremendous number of lawyers at our disposal, many who are ready to help us.”

McGuire was leading with 50.2% of the vote to Good’s 49.8%, according to Decision Desk HQ, as of Thursday night.

Former President Donald Trump and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) backed Good in his re-election bid.

There are no automatic recounts in Virginia, however candidates can request a recount when there’s a difference of no more than 1 percentage point in the race, The Hill reported.

Good claimed the race is “certainly” within the margin for a state-paid, but he is of canvassing.

Good alleged that in Albemarle County, McGuire’s representative was notified “two hours” early and officials were counting ballots “two hours before they were supposed to.”

Good said his representatives were were never notified votes were being counted early. He said he is “forcing” for that process to “start over.”

“Of course, we don’t know what took place during those two hours,” he said.

Good avoided answering when Bannon asked “who on Earth” would count ballots early without having a representative there. This is especially poignant since Republicans have raised security issues previously.

Good said Bannon was “absolutely right that everyone should want to make sure that every legal, legitimate vote is counted.”

If Good loses, he would be the first House incumbent to lose to a challenger in this election cycle.
