Republicans were not willing to entertain a reporter’s question about their latest nominee for House speaker’s stance on the 2020 election.

After Republicans emerged on Tuesday evening to celebrate their decision to nominate Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) for speaker, ABC News’ Rachel Scott brought up his support for overturning the 2020 election.

“You helped lead the effort to overturn the 2020 election results, do you…” Scott began.

As Johnson was seen shaking his head, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) shouted, “Shut up! Shut up!”

Meanwhile, other Republicans booed and were seen dismissively waving their hands.

“Next question,” Johnson said.

Scott later tried to ask Johnson if he would support aid to Ukraine and Israel and one Republican responded, “Go away! Go away!”

Meanwhile, Johnson said, “We’re not doing any policy tonight.”

The decision to nominate the Louisiana congressman came 21 days after the House voted to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as speaker, leaving the chamber without an elected speaker.

After three previous nominees for speaker failed to win enough votes, it appears Republicans may have found a candidate who can win the required 217 votes.

Republicans are expected to hold a vote on Johnson’s bid for speaker on Wednesday.
