MSNBC contributor Jen Rubin called on Democrats Wednesday during her podcast to begin taking note of lawmakers supporting President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks and urged the party to be more “direct” with voters who didn’t support them.
Less than 24 hours after Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential race, Democrats online began urging others within the party to resist the former president for the next four years. On “Jen Rubin’s Green Room,” the MSNBC contributor began by stating that Democrats should track Senate lawmakers who support Trump’s Cabinet nominations, claiming they are endorsing people who are “dangerous” and “unfit” to hold positions of authority.
“For those of them who decide to support this, either by voting for these clowns or by running for cover. What are we going to do about them? There has to be a political price,” Rubin said. “It’s not going to be immediate, but we do have midterms that will come up in 2026. The people who irresponsibly put dangerous treasonous, unfit people in positions of authority are responsible not only for those people, but for all the horrors that will unfold.”
“Democrats better get started now. Tracking these people, holding these people accountable and making clear to ordinary voters who voted for what and who’s responsible for what,” Rubin added.
Rubin went on to address the voters who don’t view political news, stating Democrats need to begin addressing basic facts with them by boiling it “down to nuts and bolts.”

“For people who don’t get political news, who never pick up a newspaper, who never turn on CNN, who never even bother with Fox News, those people really have no idea what’s going on. That means we have to bend over backwards not to suck up to these people, not to make excuses for them, but at least to communicate the basic facts,” Rubin continued.
“You can’t talk broad themes. You have to boil it down to nuts and bolts and you have to be pithy. What do I mean by pithy? How about this: Republicans want to kill your kids. It’s actually true,” Rubin said.
“If you’re going to oppose vaccinations, if you’re going to stop breakthrough medical research, if you’re going to allow minors and all sorts of people to get semi-automatic weapons, which they use to shoot up schools, well, then you are responsible for kids’ health and death, unfortunately. It has to be that simple and that direct. It has to be [said] over and over and over again,” she added.
Democrats have experienced a range of emotions over Trump’s Cabinet picks in the last couple of weeks, with many political pundits pushing back against nominees such as former Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for head of the Department of Health and Human Services and Fox News host and combat veteran Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense.
Following Trump’s announcement of Kennedy on Nov. 14, for example, corporate media pundits on MSNBC and CNN repeatedly pushed the idea that the former independent presidential candidate would be harmful in the HHS position. PBS host Margaret Hoover claimed on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront” that people could die from his views on vaccines, specifically his stance on measles.
