Tommy DeCarlo, the vocalist who stepped into the spotlight as the lead singer of the rock band Boston, has died at the age of 60 after battling cancer.

According to Page Six, his death was confirmed on Monday in a message shared by his family on social media.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026,” the statement from his wife, Annie, and children, Talia and Tommy Jr., began.

DeCarlo had been fighting brain cancer since receiving the diagnosis in September.

“After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end,” the family wrote.

They also asked fans and supporters to allow them time to grieve privately.

“During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another,” the message continued. “Rest in peace, Dad.”

Before his death, DeCarlo’s loved ones launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of his medical treatment. By Monday afternoon, the fundraiser had collected more than $56,000.

The page described the serious medical complications he faced in recent months.

According to the fundraiser, DeCarlo suffered a brain bleed in September that required emergency surgery.

During the craniotomy procedure, doctors discovered two melanoma masses on his brain as well as another spot on his lungs.

Despite the grim diagnosis, the page noted that DeCarlo initially made a strong recovery and began treatment.

“He amazed us by recovering from the surgery and beginning treatment, but before he could complete it, he had another brain bleed and was hospitalized from November 27th to December 27th,” the page explained.

DeCarlo joined the band Boston following the death of the group’s original lead singer, Brad Delp, who died by suicide in 2007.

Boston rose to prominence with a series of well-known rock hits, including “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” “Don’t Look Back,” “Amanda,” and “Rock & Roll Band.”

The band’s current lineup includes guitarist Gary Pihl, bassist Tracy Ferrie, drummer Jeff Neal, and vocalist Beth Cohen.

Outside of his music career, DeCarlo also shared his personal story in the 2021 audiobook “Unlikely Rockstar — The Tommy DeCarlo Story,” which chronicled his life and journey with the band.
