Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is weighing in on former Vice President Joe Biden’s (D) presidential race for the White House.

Hours after announcing the suspension of his presidential campaign, Sanders appeared on “The Late Show” with Steven Colbert where he noted the challenges Biden will face going forward.

According to Sanders, the only way he can defeat President Donald Trump is to bridge the gap. The Vermont senator is urging Biden to “bring new people into his political world” and “listen to their needs.”

“I think Joe is a good politician and he understands that in order to defeat the president, in order to defeat Trump, he’s going to have to bring new people into his political world, and he’s going to have to listen to their needs — young people, working people — and maybe start moving in a different direction to some degree than he has in the past.”

Check out Sanders’ remarks below:

Colbert also asked Sanders whether or not he intends to endorse Biden. He made it clear that his stance still aligns with the overall Democratic goal — to do whatever it takes to defeat Trump.

“We’re going to be talking to Joe, and we are, and we’re talking to his team of advisers,” Sanders said.

“But what I have said — I can tell you this, Stephen, what I said from the first day when I announced my intention to run for president: I will do everything that I can to make sure that Donald Trump is not reelected.”

Sanders went on to share his opinion of Trump, deeming him “the most dangerous president in modern history in this country.”

“I believe Trump has been the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country, and we’re seeing his narcissism, his ignorance playing out in terms of the pandemic we’re experiencing right now,” Sanders said. “But I will say that we are talking to Joe, and we’re talking to his team about how we can work together.”

With Sanders officially out of the presidential race, Trump is already trying to appeal to his supporters. Sanders’ “Late Show” interview follows Trump’s tweet where he encouraged Sanders’ supporters to consider joining the Republican party.

Following the suspension announcement, Biden praised Sanders and made a call for unity among their supporters.

“If we come together, we will defeat Donald Trump,” Biden tweeted Wednesday evening. “And when we do that, we will not only do the hard work of rebuilding this nation — we will transform it.”
