A new NBC News poll finds that a majority of Americans believe the country is going in the “wrong direction” and disapprove of President Joe Biden’s job performance.

NBC News’ Chuck Todd broke down the poll on “Meet The Press” Sunday, which he said was “filled with some scary news for Democrats.”

According to the poll, just 22% of Americans say the country is headed in the “right direction,” while 71% say the country is “off on the wrong track.”

“And that includes a near majority of Democrats who are saying that,” Todd added.

He went on to note that poll found 42% of Americans approve of Biden’s job performance while 54% disapprove.”

“Believe it or not, just two months ago, Mr. Biden was in positive territory 49% approving, 48% disapproving,” Todd said.

The poll also showed Republicans with double-digit leads on the question of which party would better handle border security, crime, national security, inflation, the economy, and “getting things done.”

Meanwhile, Todd noted, “Democrats hold generally smaller double-digits on dealing with climate change, the coronavirus, education, and abortion. That’s really it right now.”

“It’s not clear yet whether any deal struck by Democrats on the social spending and infrastructure bills will nudge Mr. Biden’s numbers back into positive territory or whether the damage to his reputation is more of a scar than a bruise. This much is clear, about the only good news for Mr. Biden and the Democrats in this poll is that the midterm elections aren’t for another year,” he added.

Watch the video below:

The poll comes after Democrats once again failed to pass Biden’s $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill.

On Thursday, Biden unveiled a separate $1.75 trillion spending package, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) urged lawmakers to pass the infrastructure bill that day.

However, Reuters FiveThirtyEight’s approval rating tracker finds that 51.1% of Americans disapprove of Biden’s job performance while 43.2% approve.
