Republican strategist Scott Jennings criticized Democratic strategist James Carville during a Thursday podcast over his prediction that President Donald Trump’s administration would “collapse” within a month.

“I believe that this administration, in less than 30 days [is] in the midst of a massive collapse and particularly a collapse in public opinion,” Carville told Mediaite’s Dan Abrams on Friday. Jennings, on “Flyover Country with Scott Jennings,” dismissed the idea and argued that Carville has been in a tailspin ever since he wrongly forecast that former Vice President Kamala Harris would win the 2024 presidential election.

LISTEN:

“Honestly, I think he’s having an emotional breakdown. If anybody’s collapsing, it’s James Carville. The man’s been around for a long time,” Jennings said. “He did exactly one thing in his life, that was [to] help win the 1992 presidential election. And ever since, he’s been one of the more colorful political commentators.”

“But let’s not forget that in late October of last year, he was on the pages of The New York Times assuring the country, guaranteeing a victory for Kamala Harris for three reasons: Number one, he said, ‘Well Trump lost before, so he’ll lose again.’ Number two, Harris has more money,” Jennings continued. “And number three, he said, ‘Just my emotional instincts.’ So I think because he was so wrong, he has been in such a spiral ever since then that now he’s like perpetually trying to will into existence the collapse, if you will, of Donald Trump, or what have you.”

Carville wrote an Oct. 23 NYT opinion essay titled, “James Carville: Three Reasons I’m Certain Kamala Harris Will Win.” He listed a slew of factors to bolster his prediction, including the issue of abortion, Trump’s coalition being too small, Trump’s age and the fact that Harris’ coalition included people from [Democratic New York Rep.] Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to [former Republican Wyoming Rep.] Liz and [former Vice President] Dick Cheney.

Jennings also explained why he does not believe Trump will “collapse.”

“Trump has been one of the most stable politicians of the modern era outside of the dip after January 6th, which was real,” he said. “Otherwise, he’s a pretty stable guy. He doesn’t fluctuate much. His people stick with him. The people who hate him stick against him. But he doesn’t fluctuate that much.”

“So I just think the idea of a collapse here is wish-casting. They want him to collapse. I think James Carville wants the country to fail,” he continued. “They want these things to be wrong and bad. But I just don’t think it’s going to happen. And I certainly don’t think it’s going to happen within 30 days, which was his prediction.”

Trump’s second-term approval rating has ranged from 50% to 47.9%, according to FiveThirtyEight.

Carville expressed deep sadness about Trump’s victory, which included winning the popular vote, during a Nov. 7 podcast.

“I’m sure I’ll come up with something to make me feel good again, but right now, today, it’s hard, I’ll be honest with you,” he said at the time. “And the hardest thing is that I look across this country, and tens of millions of people fell for this shit, and it’s just, it’s depressing, but I will snap out of it.”
