“Beverly Hills, 90210” star Shannen Doherty opened up about her battle with stage 4 breast cancer and her relationship with God.
In an interview with People, Doherty, 52, said she doesn’t “want to die” as she continues treatment.
“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating,” she explained.
She added, “I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I’m just not — I’m not done.”
Furthermore, she opened up about her will to fight the disease, which has now spread to her bones.
She shared:
“People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age — ‘You’re done, you’re retired,’ and we’re not. We’re vibrant, and we have such a different outlook on life. We are people who want to work and embrace life and keep moving forward.”
The “Charmed” actress also spoke about how her relationship with God encourages her despite her terminal prognosis. She declared her “greatest memory is yet to come.”
“I pray. I wake up and go to bed thanking God, praying for the things that matter to me without asking for too much. It connects me to a higher power and spirituality,” she said, adding, “My faith is my mantra.”
In April 2017, Doherty announced on her Instagram page that the cancer had gone into remission.
However, by the end of 2019, the cancer had returned. The following year, she revealed she was diagnosed with metastatic stage 4, via ABC News.
“I don’t think I’ve processed it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways,” she said.
In March of 2015, Doherty publicly disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
“Yes, I have breast cancer, and I am currently undergoing treatment,” she revealed.
Doherty continued, “I am continuing to eat right, exercise, and stay very positive about my life. I am thankful to my family, friends, and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.”
