Actress Drew Barrymore faced backlash after she awkwardly held billionaire mogul Oprah Winfrey’s hand during an interview on her talk show.
In a viral video clip of the episode posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday, Barrymore, 48, appeared not to let go of Winfrey’s hand during a sit-down conversation on the couch.
“Drew was NOT taking the hint. I know Oprah was pissed, hand all sweaty and clammy,” a user wrote in the caption of the video.
Another user accused Barrymore of “lacking personal boundaries” and said “it’s not quirky anymore.”
“She was done holding hands but Drew wasn’t,” another user wrote, adding a laughing emoji.
Another user slammed Barrymore for not letting go and told her to “stop invading people’s personal space.”
“She’s so cringey,” the user added.
Another user criticized the Golden Globe Award winner on how she conducts her interviews.
“Drew is so overwhelming with her ‘let me inhale you’ interviews,” the user wrote.
However, some users on X came to the “Charlie’s Angels” star’s defense.
“Y’all are really doing a lot behind this. She has a personal relationship with the woman that spans years and her love language is physical touch. If Oprah was uncomfortable she would have said something,” one user stated.
Another user chalked it up to Barrymore’s issue with her mother, actress Jaid Barrymore, which she has been vocal about in the past.
“Oprah is very maternal and Drew has issues around that. Maybe Drew was comforted by Oprah. Let them be,” the user wrote.
11Alive news reporter La’Tasha Givens admitted she and Barrymore are both similar in how they show affection.
“I love this because I’m forever holding people’s hands lol. I don’t know why but either I hug you or I hold you (sic) hand,” she said.
