A long-awaited Marathon Burger grand opening tied to Nipsey Hussle’s legacy turned deadly Sunday afternoon in Long Beach, when gunfire erupted outside the new restaurant.
According to the New York Post, multiple people were shot, and one person died, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 3:32 p.m. near Third Street and Pine Avenue, as crowds gathered to celebrate the launch of the fast-food chain founded by Hussle’s estate.
The Long Beach Police Department said the shooting involved several victims, but details about the motive, suspect, or circumstances remain under investigation.
Rap legend Snoop Dogg, who partnered with the Hussle estate for the opening, had been on site to cut the ribbon and even helped flip burgers.
Fans had packed the venue for the high-profile event, but the celebration quickly turned chaotic.
Eyewitness footage captured emergency responders transporting at least one victim on a gurney, while panic spread through the crowd.
“This was supposed to be a celebration of Nipsey’s legacy,” one bystander told local media. “No one expected something like this to happen.”
The shooting remains under active investigation, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine what led to the violence at the ceremony honoring the late rap icon.
