A Texas prosecutor backed by left-wing billionaire George Soros announced in a Tuesday press conference he is asking the state’s highest court to rescind a pardon issued to Army veteran Daniel Perry.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas pardoned Perry, an Uber driver who shot and killed a gun-wielding protester during a July 2020 riot, in May following a recommendation by the state’s Board of Pardons and Paroles. Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza said he was asking the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to order Abbott to withdraw the pardon during the Tuesday press conference.

“The Board of Pardon and Paroles and the governor put their politics over justice and made a mockery of our legal system and for that they should be ashamed of themselves,” Garza said. “Their actions were contrary to the law.”

Garza’s 2020 election bid received hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from groups tied to Soros, such as the Texas Justice & Public Safety PAC, according to campaign finance documents,

Perry shot and killed 28-year-old Garrett Foster, who approached him with an AK-47-style rifle during the July 2020 rioting in Austin, Texas. Garza criticized Abbott for announcing his intent to intervene in the case in an April 2023 release.

Abbott vowed that he would not back down over the pardon.

“NOT GONNA HAPPEN,” the Texas governor posted on X. “The Texas Constitution provides: In all criminal cases, the Governor shall have power, after conviction, on the written signed recommendation and advice of the Board of Pardons and Paroles, to grant pardons.”

More than a dozen Democratic state attorneys general urged the Justice Department to probe Daniel Perry’s actions in the shooting, The Washington Post reported.
