The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a proposal to allow the state of Oklahoma to establish the nation’s first-ever religious charter school.
The court was split evenly 4 to 4 on the decision, after conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett recused herself from the case. The court’s decision means that the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s ruling that said the bid to create St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School violates the federal Constitution and state law will stay in place.
The court did not indicate how the justices voted on the decision.
