The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a second protective order filed against a deported illegal migrant Democrats have vehemently demanded be brought back to the United States.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia allegedly threatened and repeatedly abused his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, according to a protective form she filed in August 2020. Included in her domestic abuse allegations are claims that Abrego Garcia dragged her out of a vehicle by her hair and left her on the street in December 2019, broke her son’s tablet and broke down doors in their house in January 2020 and pushed her against a wall while breaking TVs and phones in March 2020.

Sura additionally claimed in the 2020 protective petition that she had a recording of Abrego Garcia stating that “even if he kills me, no one can do anything to him.”

The petition was filed roughly a year before Sura filed a second domestic violence restraining order in 2021. The Trump administration is pointing to the newly surfaced 2020 allegations as evidence that Abrego Garcia is not someone who deserves to be returned to the U.S.

“The facts are clear: Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a violent illegal alien who abuses women and children,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “He had no business being in our country and we are proud to have deported this violent thug.”

“We have now found two petitions for protection against him, in addition to the fact that he entered the country illegally and is a confirmed member of MS-13,” McLaughlin continued. “Our country is safer with him gone.”

Abrego Garcia was arrested by immigration agents in March and was among more than 200 foreign nationals deported to El Salvador later that month. His repatriation to El Salvador was in spite of a 2019 withholding of removal order that barred his return to the country, but the Trump administration has stood by the move, accusing him of being an MS-13 gang member and wife-beater who poses a danger to the community.

DHS in April released a domestic violence restraining order previously sought by Sura in June 2021. Despite publicly demanding he be returned to the U.S., Sura once claimed that her husband repeatedly hurt her and was aggressive during their marriage, swearing in court documents that he once “punched, scratched me on my left eye, leaving me bleeding,” among other alleged beatings.

Following the 2021 petition, the District Court of Maryland for Prince George’s County ordered Abrego Garcia to not abuse, threaten or try to contact Sura, according to court documents. The Maryland court also awarded Sura custody of their child until a final protective order hearing was held. After the 2021 petition surfaced in April, Sura stated that her request for a protective order was done simply as a precautionary measure and that she ended up not following through with the civil court process.

The domestic abuse accusations are in addition to allegations that Abrego Garcia was involved in human smuggling and a member of MS-13, a transnational crime syndicate that President Donald Trump has designated as a foreign terrorist organization.

The alleged wife-beater was once pulled over and suspected of human smuggling in 2022 when an officer with the Tennessee Highway Patrol noticed he was driving eight individuals with no apparent luggage in the vehicle, despite the fact that he was driving them from Texas all the way to Maryland. The vehicle Abrego Garcia was driving that day belonged to another individual who was found guilty of smuggling illegal migrants in 2020, DHS confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Department of Justice released documents on Abrego Garcia’s 2019 arrest in Prince George’s County, Maryland, relating to his alleged gang affiliation. A “past proven reliable source” informed local law enforcement that he was a member of MS-13 following his 2019 arrest, identifying his alleged nickname and rank within the gang.

The additional domestic abuse allegations against Abrego Garcia could complicate circumstances for Democrats, who have made the Salvadoran national the face of their protest against the Trump administration’s deportation agenda.

Maryland Democrat Sen. Chris Van Hollen, followed by four House Democrats, visited El Salvador in April to demand the illegal migrant’s return to the U.S. Illinois Democrat Gov. JB Pritzker announced later that month that he had ordered state officials to examine boycott options against El Salvador until the government facilitates his return.

The four Democrats who visited El Salvador — Reps. Maxwell Frost of Florida, Robert Garcia of California, Maxine Dexter of Oregon and Yassamin Ansari of Arizona — stayed at the Hilton San Salvador, a luxurious five-star property situated in the backdrop of the city’s volcano, according to a source that spoke with the DCNF.

House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has reportedly discouraged other members of his party from making more trips to El Salvador. Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar publicly stated Friday that Abrego Garcia is not the right person for his party to be championing, given the growing number of allegations against him.

“This is not the right issue to talk about due process,” Cuellar said on Fox News Radio. “This is not the right case. This is not the right person to be saying ‘We need to bring him back to the United States.’”

“Democrats should not take [on] this issue,” the Texas lawmaker continued. “When you look at immigration is this the immigration case you want to take to fight on? In my opinion, absolutely no.”
