A South Georgia high school teacher is facing child molestation charges after investigators said she had inappropriate contact with a student, a case that quickly drew attention to her social media history and a sudden divorce filing by her husband.
According to the New York Post, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said 29-year-old Danielle Weaver was taken into custody Feb. 18 after school officials at Lee County High School in Leesburg reported allegations involving a minor.
Authorities later charged her with child molestation and improper sexual contact by an employee, agent, or foster parent.
The district said the staff member tied to the case was removed from employment after the allegations surfaced.
“Upon discovering the allegations, school and district leadership acted immediately to ensure the safety and well-being of students, as well as to conduct a thorough investigation,” the district said in a statement.
Officials said the district learned of the claims Feb. 3 and contacted law enforcement. Investigators secured an arrest warrant Feb. 17, and Weaver turned herself in the following day.
The GBI said the investigation remains ongoing and will be forwarded to the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office when complete.
Court records show Weaver’s husband, Caleb, filed for divorce the same day she was arrested, stating the marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
A judge granted him temporary custody of the couple’s two daughters and sole possession of their home, barring Weaver from entering except for visits with the children.
The filing states the couple separated Feb. 5.
Weaver’s online presence also drew scrutiny after her arrest.
In a TikTok video posted before the allegations became public, she complained about what she described as a “creepy” interaction with a stranger.
“Okay, I just need to know something for a minute – why do men have to be so creepy sometimes?” she said in the clip.
After news of her arrest spread, the video prompted backlash online, including a comment that read: “Why do teachers gotta be so creepy?”
Other posts on her account show family moments with her children, references to her marriage, and videos filmed in a classroom setting.
Authorities have not released details about the alleged conduct involving the student. The case remains under investigation.
