Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s high-stakes political fight just collided with a personal bombshell.
Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton, his wife of nearly four decades, announced Thursday that she has filed for divorce — and she didn’t hold back on the reasoning.
“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds.,” she posted on X Thursday, drawing immediate attention.
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” she added. “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”

The announcement comes at a politically volatile moment. Ken Paxton is preparing for a fierce GOP primary battle against longtime Republican Sen. John Cornyn.
The Paxtons have been a high-profile conservative couple in Texas politics.
Ken Paxton, first elected in 2014 and re-elected twice since, faced political scandal in recent years. In 2023, he was impeached by the Texas House over allegations of corruption — including claims linked to an extramarital affair. He was ultimately acquitted by the Texas Senate, per Fox News.
In his own statement, the attorney general said, “After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives.”
“I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren. I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time,” he added.
