Enough was enough for “The Office” actor Rainn Wilson who quit X, formerly Twitter, after the social platform helped facilitate the spread of rumors about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.
Specifically, Wilson took X owner Elon Musk to task Tuesday for allowing this to happen, The Wrap reported.
In a three-minute video, Wilson criticized Musk for allowing the spread of false, “baseless” and “racist” lies of the Haitian immigrant population. He also went after in Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), the Republican nominee for vice president, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for also spreading the news.
“Everyone was in on this horrific, racist, unsubstantiated lie simply to throw kerosene on the fire of immigrant hate and distrust,” said Wilson, who has done charitable work in Haiti.
He also said Twitter used to be a fun place before being handed over to “foam-at-the-mouth, tin-foil-hat right-wingers.”
“Twitter used to be a fun place to post jokes for your friends and laugh at some memes and get some news as it unfolded. It is now an echo-chamber, cesspool of hate and misinformation. I’m out,” Wilson wrote in text that accompanied his video announcement, which is no longer on X since he deleted his account.
The video, however, was reposted, at least in part:
