There is a saying that life imitates art. And that is what is playing out with actor Milo Ventimiglia and his wife, Jarah, are ready to welcome their first born.

But as Ventimiglia told CBS News, they have lost their home in Malibu in the Los Angeles wildfires that are wreaking havoc on the California city.

that fact that milo ventimiglia lost his house in LA due to the wildfires when he is so close to being a father breaks my heart into million pieces. 😣 pic.twitter.com/8UcjkVURTc

This scenario somewhat played out in a fictional setting on the NBC drama series “This Is Us” when his character died.

“You know, it’s not lost on me, life imitating art,” Ventimiglia said.

Ventimiglia, 47, said it took seeing his destroyed house himself for reality to sink in.

“You start thinking about all the memories in different parts of the house and what not and then you see your neighbors houses and everything kind of around and your heart just breaks,” Ventimiglia said.

Ventimiglia and his pregnant wife evacuated Tuesday and watched on security cameras as fire destroyed their home. They couple grabbed as much as they could, what was in the nursery was lost.

And while his fictional character died, Ventimiglia is grateful for what he has.

“We got good friends and we got good people we’re working with and we’ll make do. Wife and baby and dog, most important,” Ventimiglia said.

The “This Is Us” actor became an advocate for fire safety after the fatal fire on the show.

Now, his interest has turned to wildfire safety. He told CBS he is thinking about ways he might be able to help his community.
