Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley from “Chrisley Knows Best” have spoken out about the custody of their granddaughter, Chloe Chrisley, after recent statements made by her mother, Angela Johnson.
In a statement given exclusively to People, Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley shared that they are “saddened by the unfortunate and misleading narrative currently being portrayed in the media regarding Chloe.”
Jessica Doyle, who is the family’s law attorney and was a part of the adoption process for Chloe, also made a statement to People claiming that Johnson’s allegations are “simply not legally correct or even valid.”
“I handled the formal adoption of Chloe by Todd and Julie Chrisley. Angela Johnson’s parental rights were terminated when she voluntarily surrendered her parental rights to Todd and Julie Chrisley on March 24, 2017,” Doyle said.
Doyle also added that Johnson “has had no contact with the minor child since 2015.”
Doyle revealed that Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley “don’t just have custody of Chloe” but that they are her “legal parents through adoption.”
“I have reviewed the public statements made by Angela Johnson. They are simply not legally correct or even valid,” she said.
On Nov. 21, Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison for tax fraud.
Savannah Chrisley, Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley’s daughter, spoke openly on an episode of her podcast “Unlocked” about taking over custody of Chloe Chrisley if her parents do go to prison.
“I may come home without both of my parents. That’s what the chances are,” she said. “That’s the likelihood, and that’s my new normal.”
She added, “I come home Tuesday, and I have custody of a 16-year-old and a 10-year-old, and we spend our first Thanksgiving not as a family.”
On Dec. 5, Johnson spoke with TMZ and shared that she is “in the process of getting legal papers filed” to regain custody of her 10-year-old daughter.
“In that timeframe that Chloe’s been gone, I was talking to attorneys and we were trying to figure out which way to go about getting Chloe back home,” she said.
Johnson also claimed she didn’t walk away from her daughter, but that she was “pushed” out of her daughter’s life by the family.
“And they wanted me to forget about Chloe and they wanted Chloe to forget about me like I don’t exist,” she added.
Chloe Chrisley is the daughter of Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley’s son, Kyle Chrisley.
Kyle Chrisley lost custody of Chloe in 2016 due to his drug addiction.
Johnson was arrested in the same year “for allegedly filing a false application for Medicaid assistance.”
Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley then gained sole custody of Chloe.
