Border czar Tom Homan said this week he is revisiting the immigration records of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, following renewed attention on long-standing allegations that she may have committed immigration fraud.
Speaking during an interview Monday night on Newsmax, Homan said he has asked to review Omar’s immigration file and related documents. The request comes amid resurfaced claims that Omar allegedly married her brother in order to help him stay in the United States. The allegations have followed Omar since her early days in public office but have never led to formal charges.
The renewed interest comes just days after President Donald Trump brought the topic back into the national conversation. While speaking with reporters in the Oval Office last week, Trump referred to the case as immigration fraud and questioned why it has not been fully investigated.
During Homan’s interview, Newsmax host Eric Schmitt directly asked whether an investigation was currently underway. “(President Trump) calls that fraud. It’s a story that has never been successfully refuted, even though it’s now a five-year-old story. That’s clearly a deportable offense. Is there an investigation into that?” Schmitt asked.
Homan responded that he had recently spoken with a Homeland Security fraud investigator about the matter and learned that questions still remain. According to Homan, the investigator he consulted had previously looked at the case and concluded that immigration fraud likely occurred.
“You know, I just got advised by a fraud investigator the other day on that,” Homan said. “I asked the question, who reviewed the file, and said, you know, there was immigration fraud involved. The statute of limitation became an issue in the last four years… When this was first brought up, who was president, who ran DOJ?”
While Homan did not confirm that an active investigation is ongoing, he stated that the files are now being pulled for review. “So pulling the records, now pulling the files and we’re looking at it,” he said. “But this fraud investigator who I know personally, one of the best fraud investigators in HSI, Homeland Security Investigations, said there’s no doubt he reviewed the file.”
Homan said he plans to continue pursuing the issue this week and emphasized that he wants to see where the review leads.

The original allegations that Omar may have married her brother to aid in immigration were first reported in detail by the Daily Mail, with an article last updated in March 2020. The report presented documents and records that raised questions about Omar’s past marriage history, but no formal legal action was taken.
Omar has repeatedly denied the accusations and has never been charged with any crime related to her immigration history. During her appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation this past Sunday, the topic was not brought up.
Omar, who has served in Congress since 2019, has often been at the center of political controversy, especially due to her outspoken views on immigration, foreign policy, and law enforcement. The new push to revisit her immigration records comes as the Trump administration continues to focus on border security, visa fraud, and enforcement of immigration laws.
It remains to be seen whether Homan’s latest effort will result in formal findings or action. As of now, no official charges have been filed, and Omar has not responded publicly to the latest comments.
