Border czar Tom Homan told Newsmax host Rob Schmitt Thursday that the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has ramped up its efforts to deport illegals.
In an appearance on “Rob Schmitt Tonight,” Homan said that current deportation efforts are outpacing those of the previous administration by threefold. Homan said that the current strategy includes the creation of more targeted enforcement packages to improve the identification and apprehension of individuals for deportation.
“I’ve been working very closely with Secretary Noem. Secretary Noem is putting a lot of pressure on the task force, and we’ve got all the government involved now. We got not just ICE, we have DEA, we got FBI, we got ATF, all these other agencies. So me and Governor Noem are hip to hip on this. We’ve got to increase targeting, right? We’ve got to create target photos because people need to know we just don’t go on the street and look for people different than us,” Homan told Schmitt.
Homan also said that their efforts include expanding the number of teams on the ground.
“For every person we go to arrest, we have a target package. You know who they are, pretty much where they are living or where they’re working. We’ve got to increase the production of target packages,” Homan said. “We’ve just bought out a couple of huge contracts to do that. So we send more target packages out. We’re increasing the number of teams, so you don’t see those arrests increase significantly.”
During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump committed to a massive deportation initiative aimed at criminal illegal immigrants. Following his executive orders, which overturned former President Joe Biden’s 2021 reversals of his initial policies, ICE arrested and deported hundreds of illegal aliens charged with terrorism, sexual assault, and aggravated assault.
Trump issued an executive order on Jan. 20 declaring a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. This mobilized extra resources to respond to the migrant crisis that escalated during Biden’s tenure. Since Trump took office, ICE agents have arrested multiple illegal immigrants with extensive criminal histories, including a gang member in Boston, Mass., with 17 previous convictions.
