The transgender individual involved in a viral bathroom dispute at a Beverly Hills gym was previously convicted of assaulting their ex-wife in Ohio — before adopting the victim’s first name.
According to the New York Post, Alexis Black, formerly Grant Freeman, was accused by singer-songwriter Tish Hyman of exposing themselves and harassing women in the gym’s locker room. Black pleaded guilty in 2022 to brutally attacking their then-wife, Alexis Freeman, causing a compound fractured jaw and other injuries.
“Kyle Grant Freeman caused serious physical harm to the victim. The victim suffered a compound fractured mandible, which resulted in her needing surgery,” court documents from Hamilton County, Ohio, stated. Black was sentenced to a year in prison, minus time served and has previous convictions for domestic violence and drug trafficking.
Footage of the confrontation at the gym quickly went viral after Hyman, an out lesbian, claimed she was kicked out of a former Gold’s Gym location for confronting Black about having male genitalia in the women’s locker room.
Black defended their presence in the women’s changing area, saying they would feel victimized if forced to use a male or trans-only facility. “You’re not going to put a trans woman with a trans man just because we’re trans,” they said. “That seems like a whole new envelope of discrimination.”
Social media users were highly critical of Black, with one writing: “Pretty creepy using your ex-wife’s first name,” and another commenting, “Stop invading women’s spaces. You frighten women at their most vulnerable by going into their changing rooms and bathrooms.”
Hyman said she was removed from the gym after complaining to staff about the alleged harassment. “Men! Grown men with big d—ks in the women’s locker room! And that’s why I’m getting kicked out,” she said.
EōS Fitness, which operates 150 locations and recently acquired the Gold’s Gym site, has not addressed the incident. Social media responses have been overwhelmingly negative, with one user sarcastically commenting, “That means there are 23 new gyms for men to visit women’s bathrooms. What great news.”
