Former President Donald Trump is responding to conservatives who would like to see him become the next Speaker of the House.
As he arrived at the courthouse in New York City for his ongoing fraud trial, Trump took several questions about the unprecedented ouster of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)
When reporters asked him about the push to have him replace McCarthy, the 45th president, said, “A lot of people have been calling me about speaker.”
“All I can say is we’ll do whatever is best for the country and the Republican Party… we have some great, great people,” he added.
Another reporter asked, “Would you take the job?”
“A lot of people have asked me about it,” Trump responded before adding his focus is “totally” on running for president.

On Tuesday, House members voted 216-210 to oust McCarthy.
CNN’s Manu Raju noted Tuesday’s vote was the first time in 113 years the House voted on whether to oust a speaker, and the first time in U.S. history the vote succeeded.
In the wake of the historic move, several Republicans voiced support for nominating Trump to be the new speaker.
Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, and stated, “I nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House.”

He will end the war in Ukraine.
He will secure the border.
He will end the politically weaponized government.
He will make America energy independent again.
He will pass my bill to stop…
