For years, the media has sought to compare former President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler and tar him and his followers as 21st Century Nazis.
And a new ad shared by Trump on Truth Social is giving his critics exactly what they’ve been waiting for — even if the outrage is disingenuous.
On Monday night, the left-wing outlet Meidas Touch shared a post on X and wrote, “This story needs to be everywhere: Donald Trump posted a video about ‘What’s Next For America’ if he were to become president.”
“Underneath, it touts ‘the creation of a UNIFIED REICH’ – straight out of Nazi Germany,” it added.
President Joe Biden’s campaign account picked up on the post and wrote, “Trump posts a new ad foreshadowing a second Trump term that says he will create a ‘UNIFIED REICH,’ echoing Nazi Germany.”
If you’re a Trump-hating liberal obsessed with content that furthers your view, this was the icing on the cake. They’re not even hiding it anymore. Now, you have proof that Trump is a Nazi and wants to make America into a Nazi-hellscape.
But there’s just one issue: a community note points out the text comes from a standard placeholder in a template for a video editing software.
It also claimed the text was about World War I and not the Nazis.
Now, if you’re a Trump supporter, arguing that the text refers to Germany World War I is not the best defense as Germany in that time was not some peaceful, innocent nation.
So just stop that defense.
The best defense is the other part of the community note, which points out this template is just a basic one that kind of looks like an old paper, and only weirdos will spend their days meticulously inspecting a video to find any kind of hidden message.
Yes, the Trump team probably could have been more careful in choosing the template. But, who would think a placeholder in a template for a video editing software — that could be used in a wide range of settings — would include text about creating a “unified reich” and spark concerns you are covertly a Nazi?
Yet another miss by those who disturbingly probably sacrifice so much of their days to their obsession with trying to prove Trump is basically Hitler.
