President Donald Trump had a few choice words for Russian President Vladimir Putin after he launched an aerial attack on Ukraine over the weekend.
Trump alleged Putin “has gone absolutely crazy” in one post on social media Sunday.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever,” Trump posted on X.
“I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!” he added.
Trump also share some of his criticism for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the same post.
“Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop. This is a War that would never have started if I were President. This is Zelenskyy’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s War, not “Trump’s,” I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires, that have been started through Gross Incompetence and Hatred,” the president posted.
At least 29 people, including children, were killed over the weekend. Many more were injured, per a report on CNN.
Attacks on Ukraine have escalated as of late while talks of a ceasefire swirl — with the support of the U.S. and Ukraine. The massive attack included drones and missiles in what CNN referred to as “the largest aerial attack” in the three-year war.
Earlier on Sunday, Trump noted he was “not happy” with Putin.
“I’m not happy with what Putin is doing. He’s killing a lot of people and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin,” Trump posted on X. “I’ve known him a long time … we’re in the middle of talking and he’s shooting rockets into Kyiv and other cities. I don’t like it at all. I’m surprised.”
Russian officials called Trump’s words “emotional reactions” Monday.
“This is a very important moment, which is associated with the emotional overload of absolutely everyone and with emotional reactions,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
Peskov added Russia is “truly grateful to the Americans and personally to President Trump” for his help in getting a ceasefire to become a reality.
