President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk sat next to each other during Sunday’s memorial service for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk following a bitter feud over the reconciliation package passed in July.
Trump and Musk exchanged cheap shots via posts on their social media platforms in June stemming from Musk’s criticism of the reconciliation bill Trump signed into law on July 4. Kirk expressed hope the two of them would reconcile during the July 1 episode of “The Charlie Kirk Show.”
Video during the memorial service showed Trump and Musk apparently talking amicably, and a photo taken during the service showed the two of them shaking hands. In a June 30 post on X, Musk threatened to start a third party to address government spending.

Musk led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after Trump established it in a Jan. 20 executive order. DOGE identified $206 billion in savings since Trump established it, an average of $1,279.50 per taxpayer, according to the organization’s website.
“It’s all part of the Trump story. Sometimes things get very heated and then there’s a reconciliation — there’s a rapprochement,” Kirk said during his July 1 show. “And we all agree that we want Elon Musk and we want Donald Trump to work collaboratively.”
Kirk noted that Trump and Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida had patched things up since DeSantis challenged Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primaries.
“The best example in front of us is, as we’re doing this program, President Trump is hanging out with Ron DeSantis. Ron DeSantis, who — they were the worst of enemies imaginable … They were just attacking each other relentlessly,” Kirk said, when discussing a joint appearance by Trump and DeSantis at “Alligator Alcatraz,” an immigration detention facility. “They were in the midst of a primary. Donald Trump did not have very good things to say about Ron DeSantis at all. And now they’re taking questions on the tarmac and — in his own words, he says that his relationship with Ron DeSantis is a ‘ten.’”
