President-elect Donald Trump let his feelings be known regarding who should be the next speaker of the House.
“Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The House will vote on a new Speaker on Friday and Trump seems content with the status quo with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) staying in the leadership role, per The Hill.
Even though an endorsement from Trump helps, it does not guarantee a win for Johnson.
Some GOP representatives do not agree with Johnson’s handling of the end-of-year funding package to keep the government open.
One such representative is Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) who has said he will not support Johnson. Given the slight majority of Republicans in the House, every vote counts.
Johnson acknowledged Trump by posting a response on X, formerly Twitter.
“Thank you, President Trump! I’m honored and humbled by your support, as always. Together, we will quickly deliver on your America First agenda and usher in the new golden age of America. The American people demand and deserve that we waste no time. Let’s get to work!,” Johnson wrote.
Trump’s post endorsing Johnson came at the end of a lengthy post.
In the post, Trump boasted about his electoral success and took aim at Democrats for running a “very expensive ‘sinking ship,’” and “embracing DOJ & FBI WEAPONIZATION against their political opponent, ME.”
“BUT IT DIDN’T WORK, IT WAS A DISASTER!!!” Trump wrote. “LETS NOT BLOW THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHICH WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN. The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration.”
