Former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president, said he will debate Vice President Kamala Harris in the “pretty near future.”
Trump appeared on Fox News’s “Fox and Friends” Wednesday, The Hill reported.
“I hear she’s sort of a nasty person, but not a good debater,” Trump said. “But we’ll see because we’ll be debating her I guess in the pretty near future.”
“It’s going to be announced fairly soon. But we’ll be debating her. I would like to see it on Fox, by the way,” Trump said.
Trump recently backed out of a debate that was to be moderated and aired on ABC. He said the debate, which was to be held Sept. 10, would be a conflict of interest since Trump is suing the network along with anchor George Stephanopoulos, IJR reported.
On Wednesday, Trump suggested other networks — like NBC and CBS — are interested in hosting the event, per The Hill.
Trump emphasized the importance of a debate as part of the election process.
“I want to debate her. I think it’s important for the country that we debate,” he said. “Now where it is, I’m all for Fox. I think Fox would do a really good job. But two people have to agree.”
When Trump said he would not participate in the ABC debate, he suggested another debate to be held in Pennsylvania on Sept. 4 and hosted by Fox News.
Harris’ campaign did not agree to the new debate and it would be “happy to discuss further debates after the one both campaigns have already agreed to.”
Harris’ team said she would be at the Sept. 10 debate “one way or another.”
Trump has balked at debating Harris.
At first, he said he would “absolutely” square off with Harris, but later said there were reasons not to debate.
