President-elect Donald Trump has picked South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) to lead the Department of Homeland Security in his upcoming administration, according to reports.
CNN reported Noem will become the new secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, a post held by five different people during Trump’s previous four years in the White House. Only two of those were confirmed by the Senate.
DHS has a budget of $60 billion and employs hundreds of thousands people.
Noem’s responsibilities will include supervising department that includes U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Secret Service.
She was once a contender to be Trump’s running mate, but fell out of favor when she published her book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.”
In the book, she wrote about killing her 14-month-old wirehair pointer, Cricket, after she deemed the dog unfit for hunting.
