President Donald Trump undoubtedly has a lot on his plate — the economy, peace talks and healthcare, to name a few.
But the commander in chief took time early Monday morning to comment on two football games. The Cleveland Browns defeated the Oakland Raiders, 24-10, while the New York Giants lost to the Detroit Lions, 34-27 in overtime, Newsmax reported.
Trump called the Giants’ late-game decision to not attempt a field goal in overtime “weird.”
With 2:59 left on the clock, the Giants faced fourth down. Instead of kicking a field goal to extend their lead to six points, they went for it and failed.
The Giants faced a fourth down with 2:59 left and opted against kicking a field goal that could have stretched their lead to six points in what became a 34-27 overtime defeat.
The Lions came back with a game-tying kick to force overtime. The Lions ultimately came away with the “W.”
“Why did the New York Football Giants (NFL) not kick that Field Goal??? Who would have done such a thing? It was CRAZY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I got to watch the end of the game and thought, when they went for the touchdown instead of the 3, ‘That’s Weird!!!'”
Trump then heaped praise on Shedeur Sanders, quarterback for the Browns and the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
In this first NFL start, the younger Sanders threw for 209 yards and a touchdown as he led the Browns to a win.
“Shedeur Sanders was GREAT,” Trump wrote. “Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!”
