President Donald Trump wants the Department of Justice to pay him $230 million because of two investigations into him.

Trump confirmed Tuesday that he is seeking damages from the DOJ in one case because “they rigged the election, the Daily Wire reported.

Trump’s legal team submitted the first complaint DOJ in 2023. This starts the process that could lead to a lawsuit.

In that complaint, Trump seeks damages from the investigation into the 2016 election, alleging false ties between the president and Russia, according to The New York Times.

The second complaint, filed in 2024, seeks damages following an investigation into how he handled classified documents and the FBI raid on Trump’s Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago.

Trump spoke about the matter to reporters about any possible “compensation” in the Oval Office.

“Well, I guess they probably owe me a lot of money for that, probably. That’s true. That’s very interesting,” Trump said per Mediaite. “No, I get no salary. I gave up my salary. It’s a good salary, not as much as these guys make, but that’s OK. It’s a lot of money. And as you know, I did not take it in the first four years. I’ve not taken it in these four years either.”

“But as far as all of the litigation, everything, yeah, they probably owe me a lot of money. But if I get money from our country, I’ll do something nice with it like to give it to charity or give it to the White House, where we restore the White House, Trump said. “And we’re doing a good job. As you know, the ballroom is under construction.”

Should the DOJ pay Trump $230 million for damages related to investigations?

Demolition of the East Wing of the White House started Monday to make room for a ballroom that comes with a $250 million pricetag.

Trump was indicted by grand juries for keeping classified documents after leaving the White House after his first term and for trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Trump pleaded not guilty ti all counts. The charges were dropped after he won back the presidency in 2024.

Trump also spoke about two cases that were settled with two news organizations — CBS for $16 million and ABC for $15 million.

“They paid me a lot of money because what they did was wrong,” he said, per the Daily Wire.

The president admitted the DOJ case is different because “I’m the one that makes the decision.”

“That decision would have to go across my desk, and it’s awfully strange to make a decision where I’m paying myself. In other words, did you ever have one of those cases where you have to decide how much you’re paying yourself in damages?” he said.
