President Donald Trump approves the cancellation of “Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” Trump posted on social media. “His talent was even less than his ratings.”
And he has hinted that ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel may be next on the chopping block, while calling Jimmy Fallon, who has a show on NBC, a “moron.” He praised Fox News’s Greg Gutfeld.
“I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!” Trump wrote. “Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
CBS announced the show’s cancellation Thursday, days after Colbert criticized Paramount Global for settling a lawsuit with Trump for $16 million, The Hill reported.
Paramount Global is CBS’ parent company. The network said the cancellation was “purely a financial decision.”
Colbert has hosted the show since 2015 when he replaced David Letterman.
During Thursday’s show, Colbert said “it’s the end of ‘The Late Show’ on CBS.”
“It’s not just the end of our show, but it’s the end of ‘The Late Show’ on CBS. I’m not being replaced,” he said. “This is all just going away.”
Colbert and Trump have had an animous relationship as Colbert regularly criticized the president, who called for his removal last year.
“CBS should terminate his contract and pick almost anyone, right off the street, who would do better, and for FAR LESS MONEY — Or I could recommend someone, much more talented, and smarter, who would do it for FREE!” Trump posted on Truth Social in September.
