President-elect Donald Trump rang in Thursday with the announcement he is Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” only to follow that up with ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
Before ringing the bell, Trump thanked Time, lauded the NYSE and announced a few economic goals he has set for his second term as president, per a report in The Hill.
All this while standing in front a display of Time’s cover announcing his new honor.
“It is an honor. And this is a double, because usually they don’t coordinate the man of the year – or the Person of the Year – with the ringing of the bell,” Trump said. “And brilliantly, you’ve picked them both at the same time … It takes one trip.”
Former first lady Melania, Vice President-elect JD Vance and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, were on hand Thursday morning.
This was the first time he rang the opening bell, which signals the start of trading for the day.
This, however, was the second time Trump had been named “Person of the Year.”
The first time was in 2016 when he won his first trip to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
“Time Magazine, getting this honor for the second time – I think I like it better this time, actually,” Trump said.
