Trump Rules Out Another Debate Against Harris

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - SEPTEMBER 10: Republican presidential nominee, former President Donald Trump talks to journalists in the spin room after he debated Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris at The National Constitution Center on September 10, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After earning the Democratic Party nomination following President Joe Biden's decision to leave the race, Harris faced off with Trump in what may be their only debate of the 2024 campaign for the White House. Former President Donald Trump will not be doing another debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, he says.

The 2024 Republican presidential nominee wrote on Truth Social Wednesday evening, where he declared himself the winner in the debate against President Joe Biden and the last debate against Harris.

“THE FIRST THING A PRIZEFIGHTER DOES WHEN HE LOSES A FIGHT IS SAY THAT HE ‘DEMANDS A REMATCH,'” Trump wrote.

He continued:

“IT IS VERY LATE IN THE PROCESS, VOTING HAS ALREADY BEGUN – THERE WILL BE NO REMATCH! BESIDES, KAMALA STATED CLEARLY, YESTERDAY, THAT SHE WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT THAN JOE BIDEN, SO THERE IS NOTHING TO DEBATE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Trump was previously asked about doing a second debate against Harris on Fox News.

During a “Fox & Friends” interview in September, Trump was asked if he would be open to a potential debate in October, to which he would “love to have, frankly, Sean or Jesse or Laura” moderate it. However, Trump did not seem inclined to it.

On Wednesday, Fox News proposed a debate between Trump and Harris in Pennsylvania on either October 24 or 27. The moderators proposed in the letter to the two campaigns were Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.

Per FiveThirtyEight’s national poll average, Trump is trailing Harris 45.9% to 48.4%, as of Wednesday.
