Former President Donald Trump is still the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination despite skipping the second GOP primary debate.

According to the New York Post, E. O’Brien Murray, campaign strategist for Republicans and conservative Democrats, stated that Wednesday night’s debate had, “No impact on President Trump’s nomination.”

He also criticized Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) for “Going after Trump” and noted that this move, “makes his supporters much less likely to ever support you.”

“More attacks on President Biden and even the vice president would have been better than the crosstalk and attacks on other GOP candidates,” Murray concluded.

Americans expressed similar opinions on X, formerly Twitter.

Retired Harvard professor Daniel F. Baranowski posted, “Hands down, Donald Trump was the clear winner of last night’s Republican debate!”

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) stated, “Last night’s debate showed why Trump is not just the inevitable nominee but also necessary.”

“The economic messaging was awful,” he went on.
