The Three Musketeers of the GOP — President Donald Trump, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) — are working on a crime bill.

The bill comes in wake of Trump’s federal law enforcement clampdown on crime in Washington, D.C., according to The Hill.

“Speaker Mike Johnson, and Leader John Thune, are working with me, and other Republicans, on a Comprehensive Crime Bill. It’s what our Country need, and NOW! More to follow,” Trump posted on social media early Wednesday morning.

The president has made crime a major part of his platform since running for office in the 2024 election.

He deployed the National Guard in Washington and has hinted at doing the same in Chicago and Baltimore, cities both led by Democrats.

Trump sent federal law enforcement into Washington on Aug. 7, followed by the National Guard a few days later.

Since then more than 1,094 arrests have been made, the White House reported. Eight gang members have been arrested; two missing children have been rescued; 115 firearms have been seized; and 49 homeless encampments have been cleared, the White House said.

The president upped the stakes for those found guilty of murder in Washington by pushing for the death penalty in those cases.

He claimed “that’s a very strong preventative.”

The Supreme Court nullified capital punishment in 1972 in the District and the D.C. Council formally repealed the practice in 1981.

Those efforts seeking to put the death penalty back on the table have not been successful.

Trump said earlier the U.S. military might be sent to Chicago and is set to go wherever needed, Reuters reported.

Trump also ordered the Department of Defense to make sure every state has some National Guard troops that can mobilize quickly.
