Kanye West’s announcement that he is running for president in 2020 comes four months before the election, and after he indicated he would vote for President Donald Trump.
On July 4, West took to Twitter to state that he is running for president in 2020.
In an interview with RealClearPolitics on Tuesday, Trump responded to West’s reported candidacy, “He may. It’s very interesting.”
However, Trump noted that West has already missed the deadline to be on the ballot in November in some states, “It’d have to be limited to certain states because in some states the deadline has been missed.”
Ultimately, Trump said that if West mounts a White House bid, “He would have to view this as a trial run for what’s going to happen in four years.”
On Saturday, West tweeted, “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision, and building our future. I am running for president of the United States.”

Shortly after his tweet, Tesla CEO Elon Musk replied, “You have my full support!”
Musk was not alone in voicing support for West, billionaire Mark Cuban said, “If there was Rank Choice voting available and [Kanye West] was on the ballot with [Joe Biden] and [Donald Trump] I would have [Kanye West] ahead of [Donald Trump].”

However, Cuban has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden (D), who he said has the “qualities that this country needs right now.”
“I mean he has humility, he has compassion, he believes in science, he’s had experience in government that leads him to want to bring in the best people as opposed to sycophants,” he said.
Cuban has previously been critical of Trump’s job performance. During an interview on Fox News, he said, “Donald Trump doesn’t want to run a country. He wants to run a campaign.”
“Joe Biden actually wants to run a country,” he added.
