Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social, the social media network founded by former President Donald Trump, announced the rollout of a streaming service Thursday.
The new streaming service, called Truth+, began moving its beta testing to TMTG’s own content delivery network as part of a “phased rollout,” according to a Thursday release. Following a period of stress-testing, the streaming service will be available for users of Truth Social on the web, with it becoming available on Android and iOS later, the company said.
Initially, the streaming service will provide entertainment, news, weather, commentary and lifestyle programming, the release said, with an eventual expansion to news, Christian content and family-friendly content.
“First, we created Truth Social to provide a safe harbor for free speech on the Internet,” TMTG CEO Devin Nunes said in the release. “Now, we’re establishing a reliable home for great TV content that is neglected by the big corporations or is at risk of cancellation-and we are securing our own tech stack and hardware infrastructure to make our new CDN uncancellable. I look forward, in the near future, to launching many enhancements and adding great, new content to the platform.”
TMTG started trading publicly on March 26 following approval of the merger between Digital World Acquisition Company and TMPG, and rocketed to $57.99 at the close of trading on March 26. Trump earned 36 million bonus shares in the company for hitting a stock price target in April.
TMTG plans further expansion, including new streaming apps that would include video on demand, a DVR and an interactive electronic guide. The company plans to build its own infrastructure for content delivery, including servers and routers, to render it “uncancellable by Big Tech,” according to the release.
TMTG did not immediately respond to a request for more information from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
