Users on Twitter reacted to the platform’s rebranding over the weekend.

On July 23, Twitter owner Elon Musk posted a clip showcasing the platform’s transition from the bird logo to the “X” logo and name.

Following the announcement, users on Twitter shared their thoughts on the rebranding.

“I’m curious, if you intended to rebrand [Twitter] why did you buy it in the first place? I would have thought most of the value was in the brand,” one user wrote.

I'm curious, if you intended to rebrand #Twitter, why did you buy it in the first place? I would have thought most of the value was in the brand. If you wanted your own social network similar to Twitter, why didn't you just launch X as a startup? It would have been much cheaper.

The user added, “If you wanted your own social network similar to Twitter, why didn’t you just launch X as a startup? It would have been much cheaper.”

“So now that Twitter has been rebranded to X, what are tweets called now?” another user inquired.

However, former Rep. Joe Walsh (D-Ill.) said he doesn’t plan on using the new name.

“It’s a free country. He’s free to change the name to X. And I’m free to keep calling it Twitter,” he wrote.

Another user expressed they were confused by Musk’s decision.

“Seriously can’t understand why Elon Musk is changing so much of Twitter and calling it X and now wants people to call tweets X’s if it ain’t broke don’t fix it Elon,” the user wrote.

On July 23, Musk announced Twitter would now be “X.”

Speaking on the transition, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter, Linda Yaccarino, explained it’s “an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression.”

“Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square,” she continued.

Yaccarino also revealed what users can expect from “X” in the future.

“X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine,” she wrote.
