Ah, Virginia, the land of cherry blossoms and… apparently, an ever-growing budget for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion? The state has decided that pouring $1.8 million annually into a DEI office is a wise investment, especially under the keen leadership of Dr. Sesha Moon, our newly appointed “DEI Pioneer.” Because when I think of fiscal responsibility, I certainly think of prioritizing “inclusivity” over actual services that Virginians need!

What’s more impressive than the budgetary priorities of our elected officials? The reaction to former Governor Glenn Youngkin’s attempt to inject a little common sense is like watching a cat on a hot tin roof. Youngkin wanted to shift focus from “equity” to “opportunity,” but no—each tax dollar seems to be on a one-way ticket to Wokeville instead. Meanwhile, legislators are now clamoring for an additional $3.6 million to bolster the office. Clearly, all this is going swimmingly for Virginia’s hard-working taxpayers, right?

Should Virginia increase funding for the DEI office?

Dr. Sesha Moon’s resumé reads like a badge of honor if you’re into accolades that supposedly prove how deeply entrenched she is in the world of DEI. And as for her claim that these initiatives are a “constitutional mandate,” one can’t help but wonder which Constitution she’s referencing—perhaps a revised edition available at the local activist bookstore? It’s fascinating to see how “nonpartisan” she claims to be while stacking a government department with a budget eclipsing that of critical services.

So, as we wrap up another week, let this be a reminder: In our pursuit of “equity,” let’s just pray that we don’t bankrupt the Commonwealth while at it. It’s hard to believe this is where we’ve landed in 2025, but hey, as long as you’re feeling inclusive, who cares about budgets, right?
