Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s first televised sit-down since announcing her resignation took a tense turn when she and “60 Minutes” host Lesley Stahl fell into a familiar pattern of sharp exchanges.
According to Fox News, Greene, who is set to leave Congress on Jan. 5, sat down with Stahl to discuss her recent apology for participating in what she described as “toxic politics.”
The Georgia Republican told CNN last month, “I would like to say humbly, I‘m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics… it’s very bad for our country.” She added that she’d reflected on her role in the political climate, saying she was committed to “put down the knives in politics.”
But Stahl pressed her on that commitment.
“But you contributed to that,” Stahl said during Sunday’s interview. “You. You, you were out there pounding, insulting people.”
Greene immediately bristled.
She argued that Stahl’s questioning was part of the problem she was being criticized for.
“You’re accusatory, just like you did just then,” Greene said.
Stahl didn’t budge.
“I know you’re accusing me, but I’m smiling,” she replied.
Greene fired back again: “You’re accusing me. But we don’t have to accuse one another.”
The exchange continued as Greene insisted that if she was expected to acknowledge her role in political toxicity, Stahl should acknowledge her own.
Stahl rejected that idea outright.
“I don’t insult people,” she said.
Greene countered: “You just, you do in the way you question. And you are, you’re accusing me right now.”
The friction echoed their previous interview in April 2023, when Greene sparked outrage by calling Democrats the “party of pedophiles.” Stahl challenged her then as well.
“They are not pedophiles. Why would you say that?” Stahl asked during that earlier interview.
Greene responded, “Democrats support — even Joe Biden, the president himself — supports children being sexualized and having transgender surgeries. Sexualizing children is what pedophiles do to children.”
Stahl’s one-word reaction at the time — “Wow” — became one of the segment’s most memorable moments.
Greene’s decision to resign from Congress startled observers last month. Her exit came after months of political turmoil, with many noting the deterioration of her relationship with President Donald Trump.
